"THE four poles which have become synonymous with learning how to park cars will soon be gone.

From March next year, trainee drivers will not have these poles to assist them during their driving test. Learners who are taking the Traffic Police driving test before March 1 next year, will continue using the poles for parking.

A spokesman from ComfortDelgro Driving Centre said that under the new rule learner drivers can still adjust side mirrors, wind down the driver's window, or open the driver's door to check on their parking.

Private driving instructor Peck Chin Huat said parking without poles is more practical for students, as real parking lots do not have poles. 'Initially it will be harder, as there is no target for them to look at, so they will have to depend on their sense of judgement,' he said in Mandarin."
